Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
7/14/07

Oh, the endless magic that is Harry Potter.

Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, and Rupert Grint star in the fifth Harry Potter movie adaptation of the book series. This one was pretty good; probably one of my favorites of the films thus far. Dolores Umbridge (Helena Bonham Carter) was fittingly annoying, which was good, and the little Asian girl filled her minor role quite well. The romantic moment between Harry and the girl wasn't gasped at by the theater audience, but I suppose that's to be expected after waiting for the hyper-fans to get their fill of the movie, and then, and only then, going to see it.

If you're wondering how it was in relation to the book, I don't know. I never got into the series much, no matter the times in the past that I've tried. It simply didn't pique my interest, even though I can see why others enjoy it so much. If you must know from someone who actually read the books, my friend Josh, who is the person I go with to pretty much all of the movies I see at the theater, is a Harry Potter lookalike, and also loves the books. He commented on the majority of the movie being close to the book, with the exception of the very beginning and some parts in between; however, he mentioned, it wasn't off the mark as much as Hollywood usually makes films with corresponding books. So there.

Very interesting movie. Umbridge's laugh was pricelessly frustrating, and the emotion was pretty fulfilling throughout. Facial expressions were adequately depressed when they needed to be, and there wasn't much sign of bad acting contained in it. One of the distracting features is naturally how the three main actors are getting noticeably older; a few years past the age they're playing, which I'm sure is hard to accept for the die-hard fans and the actors themselves who love Harry Potter.

5.9. I'm not saying much on the count of it not being part of a series I was ever too interested in, although, if someone were to walk into the theater without knowing anything about the Harry Potter series, yes, he/she would be utterly and completely lost. This isn't a movie you can enjoy without having quite a bit of background, in either the books or the movies.
