Hot Rod
8/3/07
Hot Rod was pretty stupid at parts. Sorry, but that's my first and last impression of this movie. Just thought I'd get that out of the way.
Isla Fisher played a girl named Denise who hung out with the protagonists (their hobby was to do all sorts of crazy and seemingly unbelieveable stunts). She ruined it. Having her as the add-on to the team of them was just a bad idea. Isla Fisher is adept with prissy and blonde girl roles, but that was completely unnecessary. The movie was already a bit edgy, in a bad way.
Andy Samberg plays Rod Kimble, a teenager who performs all sorts of outrageous stunts because he believes his father was the greatest stuntman to have ever lived, and wants to be like him. Decent premise, not too original, not too unoriginal, so I decided to check it out. That wasn't the best of my ideas. The entire film was practically made up solely of Napoleon Dynamite humor, which isn't bad. In small amounts. They overdid it. One thing I will give Samberg for, though, is that he did pretty much all of his own outlandish stunts the whole movie. Even though I'm not a fan by any means of the word, Hot Rod had some pretty cool tricks up its sleeve.
4.8. That's really all I can bring myself to give it. It wasn't horrible, but it definitely was not good.
