Live Free or Die Hard
6/29/07

Just as the first Die Hard did, Live Free or Die Hard succeeds at being a highly-intriguing, action-packed wonder of a movie, which is something I wouldn't have expected after the second and third installments of the series. They weren't bad, but they weren't fantastic either. Bruce Willis stars yet again as John McClane, his sassy and irate character from the series; allow me to say right now that he kicked some serious ass, just as always. His humor is back with a vengeance (ha-ha; ignore that horrible joke if you're not a fan of the series) in this one, and this time McClane's daughter comes into play. His family seems to always get intertwined with the bad guys somehow.

For the most part, the hacking was accurate and the characters were interesting. At least if you don't count Timothy Olyphant, who played the Hans Gruber of this sequel. I'm still not quite sure of my opinion on him, but overall, his face and atmosphere bothered me. Naturally, it wasn't too detracting, for Justin Long (the main character from Accepted; I just now remembered that that was the movie I remembered his face from) also played an important part, which erased Olyphant's unattractive persona. Bruce Willis was once again astonishingly fitting in his role, and thus did a great job.

The special effects included must've cost more than just an arm and a leg; there were explosions everywhere McClane turned, and the technology used was pretty impressive, even though it's nothing too new. It all looked really cool. When sequels come out, people are a mix of being excited that a favorite series has returned, but disappointed in the quality of the new addition. The great thing about this movie is that it didn't stir any disappointment in me. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I'd definitely buy it, if not just to see Justin Long and Bruce Willis work together all over again. With Live Free or Die Hard, they really tried to return the Die Hard series to its former glory.

6.3. I had a very nice time watching it, and it didn't stray too far from the Die Hard atmosphere.
