Their Eyes Were Watching God
5/29/08
Janie Starks (Halle Berry), a beautiful and free-spirited girl, goes through marriages to find what truly makes her happy. One thing I'll immediately compliment about this movie is the acting prowess of Halle Berry, and how much more attractive she looks with long hair.
So this is set in the 1920s and is thus very old-fashioned, but it has a certain charm to it that comes with watching people appreciate the simple joys of life. Of course, we watched this in English class after half of the students read the book that goes with it. Even though I wasn't one to read it, this movie is entertaining by itself, and no prior experience with the characters is even needed.
I've heard it doesn't do the book justice as best as it could, but since I didn't read the book, don't take my word for it. I'm not a fan of old-fashioned movies, but this one is in color and was made in 2005, so it's hardly ancient. 6.4.
