Transformers
7/6/07
You know, because I didn't play with the toys and fall in love with the series of Transformers from age 3 to age 8 (unlike a geeky friend I know), I couldn't appreciate this movie nearly as much as I should have. The technology was indeed astounding, as many have said, and the Transformers didn't look like big heaps of trash as I thought they would. Kudos to the creators for that.
Naturally, the storyline was good this, evil that, can-be-good-or-evil that, and a chase for the good-or-evil cube. Interesting. I always seem to underappreciate movies with classic storylines. I don't know what's wrong with me. This one deserves quite acclaim in the criticism department. Shia LaBeouf played in another pretty damn amazing movie (past titles include one of my old likes: Disturbia), and I enjoyed seeing his face again; for being young, he's a very adept actor. His role was as Sam Witwicky, the human youth charged with saving the world from total destruction because of the war between the Autobots and Decepticons. His crush was Mikaela (played by Megan Fox, also a slut in real life), an "average" teenaged girl (it's amazing how we classify absolute stupidity as "average" nowadays) who decides Sam is good enough for her only after he tries to save her life a few times. She runs around uselessly with him for quite a bit before they finally take the focus off of her (I will say, though, that she makes a good teenaged girl for being 21 IRL) and concentrate on the Transformers, although the footage of her isn't too excessive; it just pushes it. Why do I even mention her for more than one sentence? Because she was a worthless addon to this movie, and I hope I don't ever see her act again. She may have actually lowered the rating a bit in my eyes, although I'm not about to dissect it on her behalf.
One thing probably all fans have heard and/or looked up is that Optimus Prime does indeed have a diagonal face in the movie. This is true, but because I didn't grow up with Transformers, I didn't care to an extreme extent, although I'm sure it bothered quite a few others in the theater. Bumblebee's transformation into a crappy Camaro amused all all over again, and his use of the radio to speak was also a bit entertaining.
I would buy it. I liked it. For how long it took to make it, I would be surprised if I didn't. 6.2.
